LANCASTER, Pa. - "Break the silence. Stop domestic violence" was heard throughout the streets of Lancaster as people participated in the second annual Melissa Cowan Walk 4 Life.

Cowan was stabbed to death by her husband, Carrington Joseph, on May 2, 2014. Their four-month-old twins were in the room when she was stabbed. Joseph was sentenced to life in prison.

Melissa's death inspired her mother, Kelly Cowan, to start the Purple Wishes, Melissa G. Cowan Foundation, that grants wishes to children who have a mother or father that was a victim of a domestic violence homicide. Proceeds from Saturday's walk and peace festival go toward the foundation.

Furthermore the event served as a way to get people talking about and then, preventing domestic violence.

"We are here to let you know we are your voice. We are speaking out. We love you and we are saying no to domestic violence! We are going to end it today," said Kelly Cowan.
