YORK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – It’s known as the fastest 2 minutes in sports– the Kentucky Derby. Some folks in the area who couldn’t enjoy the race in person, gathered at Heritage Hills in York Township to watch.

The Derby Day event benefits the West York Area School District. Money raised will help  school programs in the district.

“There’s worthwhile programs such as teacher grants and the conversion of classrooms that could happen because of the efforts of not only the people here,” foundation president Joseph Connolly said, “but philanthropists who are involved all year-long.”

This is the third year that the foundation has held the Derby Day.

Twenty-two horses competed in this year’s race. This year’s winner was Nyquist.
