CUMBERLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Recent terrorist attacks overseas have a group in Central Pennsylvania giving a bit of insight into how to react if you're ever caught in an attack.

Tripwire Operations Group recommended what to do if a person comes across a bomb.

Joshua Mills, the vice president of concepts at Tripwire, said, "Distance is your friend. Just get away from it. Preferably in the same way you got there because God forbid it's on the other side there's something to set it off this way or that way."

He said if you discover and explosive device, keep your cool.

"Your best bet honestly is to not freak out. Because if I'm the bad guy and I'm watching, 'Alright now's a good time.' The minute I see people start freaking out and know that they found what I got: Alright screw it. Boom," he said.

The energy that radiates from a bomb is extremely dangerous and can turn your insides to mush if you are standing too close. After one explosion, there is a chance of a second explosion or a shooter entering the equation.

"If you're relatively close to where you get knocked down. I would just stay there," Mills said.

Tripwire also works with K-9s to train them to detect explosives and can make their own bombs. They give the dogs different scents to track down bombs and other explosive devices.

Joris Kerckhof, the international K-9 program manager, said,"I shape a kind of behavior. If my dog is having his nose on that bowl or on that can where I hide my explosives in, I reward him."

Trainers try to stress the dogs out in practice so it can perform well in real-life scenarios.

"The amount of odor that was coming out of that big amount of those explosives can overwhelm the dog," Kerckhof said.

The recent bomb threats at Gettysburg High School and New Oxford High School emphasize the importance of the K-9 training.
"Preparation is 95 percent of your job. If you prepare yourself and you know what to do, then you only have to go and make it happen,"he said.
