MANHEIM TWP., Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is closing a section of Fruitville Pike in Lancaster County to rebuild a bridge.

Starting Monday the road will be closed for up to 35 days between Carter Moir Drive and Petersburg Road in Manheim Township.

PennDOT is replacing a bridge over Bachman Run.

Some people who live nearby will have to take a longer route to get to work.

John Zliczewski, who lives in the area, said, "I usually take Fruitville Pike to go, so I'm gonna take back roads. It's going to be - instead of a 5-minute commute it's going to be a 15-minute commute."

PennDOT is also doing other construction on Fruitville Pike further south, but this is the first closure.

I guess we gotta make the roads a little better when you can, but I think they could have picked better timing because they're ripping up all the other roads," Zliczewski said.

Others who live in the area said it's not that big of a deal, and it's ultimately for everyone's benefit and safety.

Larry Rosen, who lives in Manheim Township, said, "There's been a lot of congestion on the road and that turn where the bridge is there's been a lot of accidents. It's a tight turn and I think if they improve it we can all manage for a couple weeks."

The owner of Firepit Kitchen and Bar, the owner of Nick Skiadas, is not too concerned with the construction affecting his business, but he is warning people on Facebook.
