NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa.-- A social media outrage is coming as a result of a photo. It shows a Newberry Township Police cruiser in a handicapped spot. It's been shared hundreds of times on Facebook.

"That's ridiculous," Terry Keller of Mount Wolf said. "You want to get out of your car and yell, 'what are you doing?'"

The photo was taken at the Rutters just off I-83 at the Newberrytown exit. Newberry Township Police Chief John Snyder said he was initially upset when he saw the photo.

"This kind of thing is unacceptable, and we need to try harder," he said.

This is an original post from Facebook.

Chief Snyder said the officer was responding to a call. When he arrived, the store manager was calling over to him. The officer made a mistake, according to the chief.

He posted this later to Facebook.

"I was still upset and the officer understood where I'm was and I think the organization failed and I take full responsibility," he said.

Chief Snyder said the photo creates a learning experience for the police department and it will never happen again.

"I always tell the officers to act like there is a camera and a microphone on you at all times," he said. "That way you have nothing to worry about."

As for punishment for the officer, Chief Snyder said that is all an internal matter and is not public information.
