FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. – The Franklin County Jail female inmate population is over capacity.  Warden Bill Bechtold says the jail currently has 89 female inmates. The jail house on the 1800 block of Opportunity Avenue was built 8 years ago to house only 82 female inmates.

In an effort to relieve the overcrowding, county officials asked the York County Prison is take 15 female inmates, but prison officials declined.

The Franklin County Jail is currently home to 457 male and female inmates. The jail’s capacity is 468.
