Redondo Beach, Ca. - Roger Clinton, the half-brother of former Democratic President Bill Clinton, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Redondo Beach police officials said Monday morning.

The 59-year-old Roger Clinton was arrested about 7:20 p.m. Sunday and his bail was set at $15,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s inmate information center. The arrest came two days before Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, will compete in the state's primary.

A concerned motorist called police to report a possible DUI driver who was driving south on Pacific Coast Highway in an erratic manner, Redondo Beach police said in a news release. The concerned motorist followed the vehicle and provided police with updates before officers caught up with the driver near the intersection of Torrance Boulevard and South Prospect Avenue.

Clinton was evaluated and eventually arrested on suspicion of DUI and he later refused all chemical testing, police said.

Redondo Beach Police Lieutenant Joe Hoffman confirmed Roger Clinton was "evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol, which included the performance of field sobriety tests, and subsequently placed under arrest," Hoffman said in a statement.

"Clinton was transported to the Redondo Beach jail where he refused all chemical testing and was booked for suspicion of driving under the influence," Hoffman said.

As of Monday, Roger Clinton posted bail and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in Torrance, California, court on September 2.

Former President Bill Clinton pardoned his half-brother in 2001, shortly before leaving office, for a 1985 cocaine charge -- a move which drew an investigation from House Republicans, led by then-House Government Reform Chairman Dan Burton of Indiana.

Clinton's campaign has been contacted for comment.
