WEST YORK, Pa –  A West York man choked his girlfriend until she passed out and also slapped her dog in the face, according to charging documents from West York Borough Police.

Chris Allen Hartlaub, 49, of the 1800 block of West Philadelphia Street, faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault. He was picked up on a criminal warrant by the York County Sheriff’s Office on May 31 and posted $50,000 the same day, according to the office.

On May 16 at 12:50 p.m., Julia Rauh walked into the police station to report an alleged assault she said had occurred earlier that morning. Rauh told police that her boyfriend, Hartlaub, had been arguing with her at their home for several days, charging documents state.

During the arguments, Hartlaub punched her in the head on May 13 and on May 14, he slapped her dog in its face, documents state.

Then, on May 16, the argument continued when Hartlaub said he did not want to go to work. As Rauh was in the bathroom, getting ready for her job,  Hartlaub came in and grabbed her by the throat to the point that she “blacked out,” documents state.

“She went on to say that she has no idea how much time elapsed, but she came to laying on the bathroom floor,” documents state.

Police wrote in documents they saw that Rauh had a red, bloody scratch on the left side of her throat and what appeared to be red finger marks and bruising. During the interview, she began to cry and said that she was “sick of the abuse,” documents state.

Hartlaub has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27.
