HARRISBURG - Hundreds took part in a vigil and rally Monday night to remember the 49 victims of a mass shooting early Sunday morning in Orlando.

Many dignitaries were in attendance, including Gov. Tom Wolf.

"The people who died here died victims of a hate crime," he said. "They died at the hands of a terrorist who did not reflect who all of us are as Americans."

Several speakers called on the gathered masses to recognize that in spite of recent reforms, the fight for full civil rights for the LGBT community is not over.

"The 49 call us to be unapologetic about being conscious, recognizing that the more gains and advances we make in civil rights, then those gains and advances serve as a catalyst for organized efforts to resist us and hate us and turn back the change," poet Shaashawn Dial-Snowden said.

The vigil began at Broad Street Market, before the assembled crowd marched down 3rd Street to Stallions, a LGBT bar in Harrisburg.

Civic leaders called for renewed efforts to promote non-discrimination legislation in the Keystone State.

"We will succeed and we will make Pennsylvania better because of the people we met on dance floors, because of the people we met here, because of the people we have met all throughout our lives, they will make us together," Ted Martin of Equality PA said. "They will bring us together and that unity will heal us."
