CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. – Convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky is granted a hearing on his claims of ineffective counsel during his 2012 trial.
Sandusky was found guilty on on 45 of 48 counts related to sexual abuse of boys over a 15-year period. Jurors deliberated 21 hours before it delivered the verdict.
During closing arguments, prosecutors described the ex-Nittany Lions defensive coordinator as a pedophile who preyed on victims using a charity he founded for troubled children, repeatedly abusing young boys in his care.
Since his conviction, Sandusky continues to maintain that he is innocent of the charges.
On Wednesday, Judge John M. Cleland ruled in favor of a Post Conviction Relief Act petition by Sandusky’s defense lawyers for a hearing on a number issues pertaining to ineffective counsel.
Judge Cleland scheduled a series of hearings set for 9:30 a.m. each day on August 12, 22, and 23 in Courtroom #1 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
