YORK, Pa.-- An officer involved shooting in York on Saturday night, leads police on a chase through the city and ends with a driver ditching his vehicle.

It started around 8:30 p.m. near the Third Base Restaurant on the 500-block of North George Street. Police say they were attempting to take a wanted man into custody. When he saw them, they say he struck one officer with his car and was driving toward another. At that point, the officers fired at the suspect and he took off into the city.

The driver, who is described as an Hispanic man, then drove into West Manchester Township and abandoned his SUV near the intersection of Carlisle and Loucks Roads. Officers from several local departments arrived at the scene to help with the investigation. Blood and a shoe were found in the area, but the driver was gone. He was later captured at Hanover Hospital.

Pennsylvania State Police will now take over the investigation. The two York City Police officers involved in the initial shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
