DALLASTOWN, Pa. – Dozens of residents gathered to hold a candlelight vigil Monday night for Amanda Strous, who died in a fire that was deliberately set at her Charlotte, North Carolina apartment over the weekend.
A warrant on a homicide charge was issued for, Matthew Thomas Brenner, 28, who lived in the same apartment complex as Strous. He was arrested in Nevada on Monday. He was found asleep in his vehicle in the parking lot of a motel by U.S. Marshals and Nye County Deputy Sheriff’s. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Benner confessed to the crime. He is being held at Nye County Detention Center pending extradition to North Carolina.
Strous was also a standout field hockey player at Shippensburg University. She graduated in 2011. The university athletics department posted a memoriam to Strous on their webpage. She was captain of the field hockey team. After graduating she was assistant coach for three years while she worked on her Masters degree.
