YORK COUNTY, Pa. – A York Township family is safe after neighbors alerted them that their house was on fire.  The fire broke out just after 6 p.m. at the home in the 2300 block of South Pine Street.

The neighbors also alerted firefighters at the Goodwin Fire Department on South Queen about a block away from the fire.  The fire crew, who were hosting a chicken barbecue, arrived on the scene within minutes. They encountered heavy smoke pouring from the second floor of the home.

The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
