YORK CITY, Pa-  The cause of a fire that damaged a pair of York City row homes is still under investigation.

The fire broke out just before 9 o’clock Friday evening, in the 500 block of Company Street near Raleigh Lane.

The first firefighters on the scene reported heavy smoke from the front of the home at 570 Company Street.  Heavy flames also pour from the rear of the building.  Firefighters had to open the walls of 572 to make sure the fire wouldn’t spread further.  The heat from the fire melted the siding on the walls of 566 Company Street. The fire was knocked down in about half an hour.

About 40 firefighters from four fire companies fought the fire.

The American Red Cross was called to assist with shelter for three adults and a child affected by the fire.

The fire began in 570 Company Street which was heavily damaged.

Fire officials did investigate Saturday morning, the cause has not yet been determined.

Officials did say that nothing was suspicious about the fire. Estimated damage is about $60,000.
