HEAT WAVE BEGINS
High pressure builds in for Wednesday bringing more sunshine. The day begins hazy and muggy. It remains very humid through the day. Highs warm quickly to 90 degrees. A few spots may exceed 90 degrees.
A series of low-pressure systems and associated fronts track through the area. With the heat and humidity combined with the passing front, expect a few afternoon and early evening thunderstorms Thursday. Highs soar well into the 90s. If you have to work outdoors, be prepared for quite oppressive conditions. Remember if you are spending time outdoors to use sunscreen. The UV Index will run very high and it will take less than 15 minutes for your skin to burn.
A stronger low and associated front crosses through Friday bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Some storms have the potential to become strong to severe with damaging winds a main threat. Frequent lightning and torrential downpours are possible too. Highs are expected to reach the lower to middle 90s, but when the humidity is factored in, how it feels exceeds actual air temperatures. Be sure to take breaks from the heat and stay hydrated with plenty of water.
WEEKEND CHANGES:
The weekend begins muggy and still warm with highs near 90 degrees. Thunderstorms threaten the afternoon but will not be as widespread as Friday, in fact, they are expected to be isolated in nature. Temperatures and humidity knocked back to more tolerable conditions with highs in the middle 80s by the second half of the weekend. High pressure builds in bringing mostly sunny skies for Sunday.
NEXT WEEK:
Ridge of high pressure strengthens as the week gets under way. This means plenty of sunshine and more 90 degree days. The humidity returns too. Highs Monday are held in the upper 80s but temperatures are much warmer Tuesday and beyond.
