HARRISBURG, Pa.– The bridge that carries Route 222 over Beaver Creek between Providence and Strasburg townships in Lancaster County will be reduced to a single 10-foot-wide travel lane starting on Tuesday, July 26. The bridge is located between Camargo Road in Providence Township and White Oak Road in Strasburg Township. Each direction of traffic across the bridge will be controlled by traffic signals. This portion of Route 222 is also known as Beaver Valley Creek. About 10,255 vehicles cross this bridge on a daily basis.

Motorists are asked to be alert to the new single-lane traffic pattern for the bridge, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone – for their safety as well as for the safety of the construction crews.

PennDOT has contracted with Lobar site Development Corporation of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, to replace the bridge at a cost of $1,828,950. The bridge was originally built in 1948 and is currently classified as structurally deficient (SD). The new bridge will be rebuilt using staged construction, which means that half of the old bridge will be demolished and rebuilt while the other half remains open to carry traffic. The overall project is scheduled to be completed by late April 2017.
