One word continues to emerge as a central theme in the 2016 presidential election — emails.

At a news conference Wednesday in Doral, Florida, Republican nominee Donald Trump “ignited” a firestorm, CNN reported, after he broadcasted an apparent challenge to Moscow, Russia.

Trump’s comment, “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” stirred up differing opinions on what he meant. President Barack Obama, who previously was caught on a hot mic telling Vladimir Putin that after his 2012 election he would have more flexibility, has now implied that Putin is trying to sway the 2016 election in favor of Trump.

In a Fox News Interview, Trump said, “Of course I’m being sarcastic. You have 33,000 emails deleted, and the real problem is what was said on the emails from the Democratic National Committee.”

The emails showed officials criticizing former Democratic primary candidate Bernie Sanders on his campaign efforts to oust Hillary Clinton as the nominee. The DNC claimed it was neutral in the race.

Trump said his comment was referring to separate emails that Clinton wrote on a personal server she used for official business. Clinton did not hand over the emails to the US State Department.
