CROMWELL, CONNECTICUT – The PGA Tour dates back to 1929 and now the lowest score in their history belongs to Manheim Township graduate Jim Furyk. His final round score of 58 at the Travelers Championship on Sunday breaks the old mark by one stroke and gives Furyk the record all to himself. He was one of six golfers to shoot the previous standard of 59, accomplishing that feat in 2013.
Furyk started the day in 70th place out of 73 golfers that made the cut. He blistered the course with a front nine 27 and promptly birdied the 10th and 11th holes to keep the momentum heading into the back nine. He registered 10 birdies and one eagle to finish 12-under on the par 70 layout. He hit all 18 greens in regulation and almost sank a birdie attempt on the final hole for a 57. After the near miss, he rolled in one final putt to clinch the record. He jumped over 60 golfers in the tournament to finish tied for fifth place.
