EAST MANCHESTER TWP., YORK COUNTY – Terry Hertzog started the second and final round of the York Open nine shots out of the lead. With no thoughts of winning the tournament, Hertzog fired the low round of the day and then outlasted two opponents in a playoff to capture his second title in the past four years.

After recording a 73 in the first round, the Country Club of York professional shot a 67 at Royal Manchester Golf Links in round two. When first round leader David Hilgers of Hershey Country Club rolled in a par putt on 18 to complete a round of 76, a three-man playoff field was set. Matthew Hardman from The Links at Gettysburg was tied at -4 along with Hertzog and Hilgers.

The first hole served as the first playoff hole and all three players made par before teeing it up on the par 4 18th. Hilgers lost his tee shot and and carded a double bogey. Hardman burned the edge of the cup with his par attempt and ended up with a bogey 5. After almost holing out his chip shot for birdie, Hertzog calmly sank an 8-footer for par and the championship.
