EAST MANCHESTER TWP, York County, Pa- A man is facing charges after Northeastern School District Officials say he secretly recorded a meeting they had with him about his daughter being bullied.
According to court documents, on March 31st, Roger Renoll, 42, and his wife, met with Northeastern Middle School Principal Alessandroni, Assistant principal Rine, and police at the school to talk about another student harassing his daughter.
Renoll was seen placing his IPhone face down on the conference room table at the beginning of the meeting. At one point during the meeting, Renoll began to get loud and got into a verbal argument with the school officials, court documents state. When the meeting ended, Renoll left the room.
According to court documents, about a minute later, a district secretary came into the room and said that as Renoll left the room, he pulled out his cellphone and said, “Got it,” then played back audio on the phone. The secretary said she could hear Rine’s voice on the recording.
During the police investigation, they spoke with a second district secretary, who said she also heard Renoll say “Got it” and heard the voices of Rine and Alessandroni when he played back the recording.
Northeastern Regional Police obtained a search warrant for Renoll’s house and told him they were there for a possible wiretapping violation. Renoll asked the officers “Is this about me recording the meeting?”
The officer said yes, advising him that by law, he is not allowed to record people in a private meeting without their consent or knowledge. Renoll said he hates Alessandroni and wanted to record the meeting so that it would not turn into a “he said she said situation,” charging documents state.
Police took his cellphone and denied his request to show police the recording and obtain work numbers off it.
Renoll faces one count of interception of communication. Renoll did post unsecured bail of $5,000.
