UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY – The quarterback competition is over at Penn State. Sophomore Trace McSorley is the number one guy and will lead the 2016 Nittany Lions offense. Head Coach James Franklin made the choice public on Wednesday Night. He said that Offensive Coordinator Joe Moorhead is the one that picked McSorley and that he agreed with the choice. His experience as the backup to Christian Hackenberg the past couple of seasons along with his impressive performances in the Taxslayer Bowl and Blue-White Game gave him the edge coming in to camp.

“I’m honored to be named the starting quarterback at Penn State,” McSorley said. “It’s been a long process since the end of January. It was definitely a relief.”

He won the job over Tommy Stevens and will now take all of the first team reps in practice as the team prepares for their season opener at home versus Kent State on September 3rd.
