San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said he stands by his decision to sit during the pre-game playing of the national anthem.
Inevitable backlash for his decision, Kaepernick said, is something he’s willing to endure. Regardless of public response, the NFL player said he’s taking a stand for people who are “oppressed” in the United States. He has sat through three pre-season games so far.
His protest has created a firestorm, according to Fox News Sports, especially among the military community. Coach Chip Kelly said he will not punish Kaepernick because Kelly said Kaepernick has a right to chose whether or not to stand for the anthem.
