YORK COUNTY, Pa. – A North Codorus Township man faces multiple charges after he ran his car into a light pole while he was chasing his wife, who was in another vehicle fleeing him at the time.

Southwestern Regional Police say the incident began at 4:06 p.m. on Monday at the home of James R. Hamme, 48, and his wife, in the 1400 block of Seven Valleys Road. The couple argued and  Hamme’s wife left the home in her vehicle in fear of her safety.

She drove a short distance to the parking lot of the Grace Fellowship Church, also in the 1400 block of Seven Valleys Road.  Hamme followed in his car and witnesses described Hamme as “trying to chase her down” during the pursuit of his wife, crossing the church’s lawn and the parking lots in a reckless manner. At some point, Hamme ran directly into a light pole in the parking lot. His car became stuck on top of the pole, he could not travel any further.

Officers met up with the couple in the parking lot. After determining what had occurred, Hamme was taken into custody.

Charges against Hamme include Simple Assault, Harassment, Recklessly Endangering another Person, and Criminal Mischief.
