EAST PENNSBORO TWP., Pa – A Harrisburg man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a west shore credit union at gunpoint, then leading police on a high speed chase that ended in Harrisburg.

The incident began at about 9:20 a.m. when the armed suspect, later identified as 39 year old Donnell Lee Williams, walked into the AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union, 715 Wertzville Road. Williams allegedly pointed the firearm at two different bank employees ordering one to the ground and demanding cash from the other.

East Pennsboro Township Police responding to the scene were told that a bank employee had called and confirmed the details of the robbery. The employee said that the black male suspect had just departed in a burgundy Chevrolet sedan.

A nearby Officer spotted the suspect vehicle turning onto Interstate-81 northbound. The officer pursued the sedan with the suspect traveling at high speeds.

The vehicle exited I-81 at Front Street and continued to lead the officer on a pursuit through Harrisburg City.  Williams eventually stopped the car, got out and fled on foot. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

A stolen handgun was recovered just outside the sedan and a large amount of cash was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Charges against Williams include Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, Theft, Firearm Carried without a License, Person Not to Possess a Firearm, Fleeing and Eluding Police, Reckless Driving, Driving Under Suspension and Simple Assault. Following arraignment he was sent to  the Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
