Dauphin County Coroner rules death of Halifax woman in train collision accidental
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick ruled the death of 29-year-old Trisha Hoffman, whose SUV collided with a train at the rail crossing leading onto North River Road(Route 147) in Halifax Township, was accidental. The cause of death was head and neck trauma.
Hoffman was headed eastbound in her Hyundai Santa Fe on the Susquehanna Trail Road when for unknown reasons she drove directly into the path of a Norfolk Southern freight train. Residents in the area reported hearing the train’s loud whistle before the crash. Hoffman was killed immediately by the impact. It happened about 2:37 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania State Police is continuing to investigate the incident.
