Dauphin County Coroner rules death of Halifax woman in train collision accidental

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick ruled the death of 29-year-old Trisha Hoffman, whose SUV collided with a train at the rail crossing leading onto North River Road(Route 147) in Halifax Township, was accidental.  The cause of death was head and neck trauma.

Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 4.12.47 PMHoffman was headed eastbound in her Hyundai Santa Fe on the Susquehanna Trail Road when for unknown reasons she drove directly into the path of a Norfolk Southern freight train.  Residents in the area reported hearing the train’s loud whistle before the crash.  Hoffman was killed immediately by the impact. It happened about 2:37 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The Pennsylvania State Police is continuing to investigate the incident.
