East Pennsboro Elementary cleared to open as scheduled Friday morning
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. – East Pennsboro Elementary School will open as scheduled Friday morning. School District officials say it is safe for students to return to classes after the HVAC in a classroom was cleaned and inspected. The schools 550 were dismissed early Thursday after the school principal found that the univents in the classroom were soiled. The students were dismissed early to allow the cleaning process to begin immediately.
District officials also noted that the building’s aging HVAC system, as well as even the most modern systems, have been struggling with record heat and humidity. In an effort to limit instructional disruptions moving forward, the district is working with Heim Company to accelerate the preventative maintenance of building HVAC systems to help them to work more effectively and efficiently.
District Superintendent Jay Burkhart extended his apologies to all students and parents. He said that he is working with experts and the school district administrative team to address these issues and create a safe learning environment for students.
