According to Ferguson Township Police, 20-year old Byron Markle, a student at Penn State University and York County native, was a front seat passenger in a Nissan Pathfinder SUV.

The driver, 21-year old Tyler Fasig, also a PSU student, from Leesport, Pa., failed to negotiate a left turn. Around 4:30 p.m., Fasig was driving on Blue Course Drive, when he turned left onto North Atherton Street. He took the turn wide, hit the curb, went back onto the road and the vehicle rolled over.

Police say Markle was pronounced dead at the scene, after being partially thrown from the vehicle. An autopsy performed on Saturday revealed his cause of death as blunt force trauma.

Investigators say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. They say Fasig was wearing his seat belt, Markle was not.

The crash is still under investigation. Two GoFundMe pages have been set up to help Markle’s family pay for funeral expenses.
