HARRISBURG, Pa.-- Harrisburg Area Community College is launching an initiative to give middle school students a clearer path to college education. Saturday marked the launch of the "Harrisburg Promise" Program. About 30-local students and their parents learned about the expectations of the program, through a tour of the HACC campus.
"They have an opportunity to experience the college environment and what is expected of them. They also have mentors that will help them stay afloat, but we also need parental involvement for them to succeed," said Felicia Richmond, HACC student and Harrisburg Promise mother.
Students in the program must maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout their high school career. After graduation, those who enroll at HACC are eligible for the Harrisburg Promise Scholarship. Two people in attendance on Saturday, each walked away with a $500 tuition giveaway.
