LANCASTER, Pa.-- People came together in Lancaster on Sunday to honor the New York City Firefighters killed in the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. The men and women climbed the equivalent of 110 stories of steps; that's the same number of floors that were in each of the World Trade Center Towers.
The Lancaster Stair Climb was held at Clipper Magazine Stadium, where climbers carried a picture of each of the fallen firefighters with them as they climbed the stairs.
The climb stopped twice, once at 9:59 a.m. and again at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, to commemorate the time each tower collapsed.
Even 15-years later, the organizer of the event gets emotional when asked about his inspiration.
"You had to ask that... I had a friend that was in the fire department in New York that died. There's a lot of negativity out there, but these are the guys that are going to come save your life," said Scott Yuill, Coordinator of the Stair Climb in Lancaster.
Last year, the event raised over $10,000 for the National Firefighters Foundation.
