SPRING GARDEN TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa.-- Spring Garden Township Police is telling residents to lock their homes and cars.

"Well I guess I'm going to have to start putting my windows down at night and locking them instead of leaving them open for the fresh air," Spring Garden Township Lisa King said.

Spring Garden Township Police said three burglaries happened Wednesday morning in the 1600 block of Second Avenue. One of the victims wanted to stay off camera and told us his car and home were broken into. He said his Xbox, wallet, and a set of his car keys was taken.

Residents down the street said they were shocked to hear the news. One couple, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years said they are already taking precautions, but they will take more.

"We'll probably leave more lights on, Richard Wherley said. "We already lock the doors and have lights on, but we'll probably put more on."

According to police, the burglars are committing crimes of opportunity. They are looking for open cars and homes. Police said once inside they take anything of value.

"I do keep my car locked and I do know not to keep anything of value with in view of the open windows on the house in my car," King said.

Since Friday, there have been more than 10 burglaries or thefts in the township.

"It's pretty disturbing," a resident who wanted to remain anonymous said. His home is near where the three burglaries happened on Second Avenue. "My better half is asleep on the sofa overnight, and to think that someone was crawling around outside the window while she is there, that's pretty disturbing."

That resident and other people in the area said they are looking to start a neighborhood watch to protect the homes. Wherley said he and other neighbors will continue to watch out for each other.
