ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.–A student at Bear Creek School brought a gun to school Wednesday, according to Elizabethtown Area School District Superintendent Michele M. Balliet.

It happened Wednesday at the school located at 1459 Sheaffer Road in Elizabethtown.

On Wednesday evening Northwest Regional police were notified by a concerned citizen that an unidentified 9-year-old brought a gun to school that day, according to the Lancaster District Attorney’s office. Police say students were discussing the incident on the afternoon bus ride home. Officers were provided with the name of the student, who reportedly had the gun.

Investigators discovered the student had the gun in a book bag. Police do not believe there was any threat made by the student to use the weapon.

“While the weapon was brought to school without any intent to harm, we want to assure our Bear Creek School students and their parents that we always take any incident involving a weapon seriously,” Balliet said in a statement on the district wepage.

Police searched the elementary school on Wednesday night, with school officials present.  A firearm was not located.

As of Thursday afternoon, no charges have been filed.

Police have since confiscated the gun.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northwest Regional Police at 717-367-8481.
