HARRISBURG, Pa.-- The "Take Steps for Crohn's and Colitis Walk" stepped off on City Island in Harrisburg on Sunday.

The walk is one of CCFA's largest events and is committed to finding cures for the digestive diseases. The event connects the community as they work to raise money for cures, critical research and patient support programs.

"There are 1.6 million people currently living with Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis, I am one of those people. My hope is just to bring awareness to the general public. With 70,000 people being diagnosed every year, the more people who are aware of it, realize that they aren't diseases that should be hidden, they should be talked about," says Christine Stewart, Co-Chair of the walk.

Event organizers say more than 80-cents of each dollar raised goes to funding their mission.  FOX43's Maryellen Pann took part in the walk.
