YORK, Pa- State police are investigating a deadly crash that happened after a police chase late Thursday night in York County.

The York County coroner identified the person who was killed  as Carl Snelling, 51, of the 300 block of S. Penn St. in York.

The crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday night near the intersection of Pleasant Way and McKenzie Street. Police say two wooden barriers were knocked to the ground and tire tracks were in the grass of a lot on the corner.

Officials say the vehicle that Snelling’s was driving was also involved in a police chase with the York City Police Department. An hour earlier, police were searching for a hit and run vehicle that was involved in a crash. After 30 minutes, police located Snelling’s vehicle and attempted to pull him over. A short pursuit began with it ending when Snelling crashed.

The coroner said Snelling was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday.
