FAWN TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- Leaves will start changing color soon, as the air is getting crisp. The fall harvest season is here.

It's what makes this a good time to get out and see what happens at area farms such as check out one of central Pennsylvania's many corn mazes.

Maize Quest and Maple Lawn Winery offer not only a corn maze to explore with the whole family, a pumpkin patch to pick gourds, as well as a market for fresh baked goods and the winery's own private-label, locally-produced wines.

The Maize Quest corn maze was first developed by self-proclaimed maze master Hugh McPherson in 1997.

Each year, McPherson uses GPS technology to craft a new route through the corn field.

The theme for this year's theme for the corn maze is Expedition Everest, where getting lost is part of the fun.

"We're learning about Mount Everest. You're walking through about 3-1/2 miles worth of pathways in nine acres of corn, looking for 24 game stations, that you use to play the game along the way," McPherson said.

Families may head off into the corn maze with the assistance of a mobile app as their guide to 'Search for Yet."

"This maze is bigger than any one person, so you've got to work together. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring the kids, work with them as you go. You can have a little competition between teams, but you really want to work together," McPherson said.

Anyone unsuccessful in finding their way out, can wave a yellow flag of defeat, and help will be on the way to direct lost explorers.

Maze Master Hugh is a man who wears many hats. He's also known out on the farm as Farmer Hugh.

The fifth-generation farmer takes great pride in his work.

Pumpkins are ripe for the picking at the Farm at Maize Quest. Tips are given not only on how to pick the best gourds, but also which ones are more suited for baking versus decoration.

Apple, peach, and cherry are just a few of the flavors of wine to be selected at Maple Lawn Winery.

The corn maze is open through November 6th, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am until 10 pm, and Sundays 1 pm until 7 pm.

Maize Quest Fun Park is located in Fawn Township, southern York County at 2885 New Park Road, New Park, PA.
