UPDATE: Names of York County crash victims released

PARADISE TWP, York County, Pa.- Northern York County Regional Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Lake Road and East Berlin Road in Paradise Township, York County around 5 p.m. Friday.

According to police, an SUV traveling northbound on North Lake Road failed to stop for the posted stop sign at East Berlin Road. The SUV traveled into the path of a sedan traveling eastbound on East Berlin Road. The impact caused the SUV to roll several times before coming to rest against the front porch of a home. The SUV then burst into flames.

According to police, the front seat passenger of the sedan, 98-year-old Carlton L. Jacobs, of Paradise Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 71-year-old female passenger of the sedan was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by helicopter, and the 70-year-old male driver was transported by ambulance to York Hospital. Both are from Paradise Township.

The driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Kevin Shaffer, of New Oxford, was also transported by helicopter to York Hospital, where he died.

Police say that alcohol and speed were a factor in this crash.

The roadway was closed for five hours as investigators worked at the crash scene.
