Carlisle Police arrested James Haines after a Wednesday morning car chase that ended with Haines crashing the stolen vehicle, police report.

At approximately 6:30 am, the victim of a white Toyota Tacoma, who left his car running in the parking lot of the Carlisle food mart when he went inside, said Haines proceeded to steal his vehicle. As Haines was leaving the parking lot in the 600 block of Franklin St., he struck another car that was pulling into the store.

Police issued a be-on-the-lookout after Haines left the parking lot driving the stolen vehicle. The Tacoma was spotted by officers on Route 581, according to a police report.

A pursuit then ensued into Dauphin County. Multiple agencies from Cumberland and Dauphin counties, as well as Pennsylvania State Police assisted. The Tacoma ended up crashing and the driver, Haines, fled on foot. He was ultimately apprehended by responding police officers.

Haines is currently in Cumberland County prison awaiting arraignment on charges of felony auto theft, fleeing and eluding, DUI and multiple traffic violations.
