ARENDTSVILLE, ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. -- The 52nd Annual National Apple Harvest Festival kicked off Saturday.

Despite the wet weather, crowds of people showed up to feast on their favorite apple treats from caramel apples to apple pancakes. There was also plenty of entertainment from various bands and other foods such as pit beef and funnel cakes to keep attendees happy.

Festival organizers urge everyone to bring out the entire family. They want to remind you that supporting the festival is essentially giving back to the community.

"All of the money that's raised from this festival goes directly back to the community," Ashly Wilkinson, president of the Upper Adams Jaycees said. "It's a great way to bring your family out and have a wonderful afternoon together. It's a great way to show support for a local community and enjoy the weekend whether it's raining or the sun's out."

And despite the rainy weather, die-hard Apple Harvest fans came out. "People are very dedicated to this festival and come regardless rain or shine," Festival Chairman Josh Nelson said. "We have a petting zoo, there's an apple flume, and a hay mound."

The festival runs the first two full weekends in October. The festival continues Sunday and also next weekend, October 8-9. For more information and to buy tickets, visit the festival website.
