York County Food Bank to host Iron Chef Competition

YORK, Pa.-- Iron Chef is coming to York, with a little twist.

The York County Food Bank will be hosting its own Iron Chef Competition on Monday, October 17 at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Country Club of York.

Competing chefs will include Sean Arnold of Underground West, Joe Castellano from Regents’ Glen, Gregory Mummert of Country Club of York, and George Sheffer from Victor’s Italian Restaurant.

The York County Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in York County by working with partner agencies to increase the quantity and access to high quality, nutritious food for everyone who needs it.

Roughly 50,000 York County residents, including 17,000 children, do not have a consistent supply of, or consistent access to, nutritious food.

This Iron Chef fund-and-awareness-raiser will help the Food Bank meet that need. “Each chef will serve three courses of small plates with foods commonly available at the Food Bank to show that new and exciting and healthy meals can be made using everyday items,” Matthew Shorb, the chairman of the Food Bank board said.

Today, John Hilliard, a member of the Board of Directors of York County Food Bank, and Sean Arnold, the executive chef at Underground West will be in the FOX43 kitchen previewing the event.

The public is invited to attend the Iron Chef Competition. Tickets may be purchased here.

If purchased by October 10, individual tickets cost $95. Corporate tables cost $1,000 for a table of eight and come with a half-page ad in the program. If available, tickets may be purchased after October 10 at $110 for individuals and $1,250 for corporate tables.
