LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. – An elderly woman is dead and three people hospitalized in critical condition following a crash involving four vehicles that started with a head on collision on Route 30 East.  It happened shortly after 10 a.m. in the area of Hoffmeier Road in Salisbury Township.

Pennsylvania State Police say a Ford mini van driven by Jeffrey Gable, Mohnton, Berks County, was traveling westbound just west of Hoffmeier Road with a female passenger he was transporting to a nursing home. Police say Gable swerved into the eastbound lane of the highway and struck a Hyundai Sonata, driven by Jason Oswald, of Lititz, head on.  Gable’s van then spun around counter clockwise and and struck a Hyundai Sedan driven by Kenneth Shank, of Lancaster.  After hitting Shank’s car, the minivan flipped onto its side, ejecting the female passenger.

Meantime, Oswald’s Sonata continued eastbound, struck a guide and was then hit by a Freightliner box truck driven by Michale Borrello, of East Fallowfield. Shank’s car after it was hit continued for approximately 50 yards and came to rest against a guide-rail on the south side of the roadway.

Jeffrey Gable suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Lancaster General Hospital. Oswald sustained severe critical injuries and was flown to Lancaster General Hospital. Kenneth Shank suffered moderate injuries and he too was transported to Lancaster General Hospital. Michael Borrello was not injured.

The unidentified female passenger in Gable’s minivan was declared dead at the scene due to her injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police continue their investigation.
