TYRONE TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A Newport man was charged Tuesday with homicide by vehicle in connection to a deadly crash that claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman in Perry County in June 2015.
Zachary Ross Martin, 40, is charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, careless driving and reckless driving. He was arraigned Tuesday and taken to Perry County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
On June 3, 2015–Martin was driving west on Route 274 in Tyrone Township when his vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and hit an SUV carrying three people.
The driver, identified as 80-year-old Vivian Cooper, of Millersburg, died. Her two passengers, Linda and Verna Stoltzfus, both of Millersburg, suffered serious injures in the crash.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for OCt. 14.
