BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – A 16-year-old Berks County student faces multiple charges after making social media clown threats of violence at four Wilson School District schools on October 4th.
The Berks County District Attorney’s Detective Unit identified and arrested the female student as the person behind the social media posts threatening violence at Governor Mifflin, Wilson, Reading and Twin Valley schools.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the defendant utilized a hand held electronic device to create an Instagram social media account from her home and proceeded to post threatening clown messages directed at the four schools.
Thursday morning, Berks County Detectives with the assistance of the Spring Township Police Department served a search warrant at the juveniles residence in West Lawn in suburban Reading. The juvenile and her mother were at home at the time of the search warrant was served. Detectives seized electronic devices from the home which were believed to be used to create and send the threatening messages.
in a statement to detectives the juvenile admitted to posting the threatening clown messages. She said she made the threatening messages because she did not want to go to school. She thought that by posting the messages, school would be canceled.
As a result of the investigation, detectives charged the defendant with the aforementioned charges. She is currently detained in a juvenile detention facility.
Charges against the teen include Terroristic Threats with the Intent to Terrorize Another, Terroristic Threats With Intent to Cause Evacuation of a Building, Place of Assembly or Facility of Public Transportation, Terroristic Threats with Intent to Cause Serious Public Inconvenience or Cause Terror, Criminal Use of a Communications Facility, Harassment, Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting or Threatening, or in Violent Tumultuous Behavior and False Alarms to Agencies of Public Safety.
