LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP, Pa.-- A juvenile was placed on probation and ordered to complete 75 hours of community service for lying about being assaulted at a bus stop in October 2015.
On October 14, 2015, a 15-year-old juvenile male reported to police that he was assaulted while standing at his bust stop at Clover Road and Fairmont Drive. He told authorities he was waiting for the bus stop when a car approached and he was struck on the head with a metal rod. A GoFundMe account was created for the juvenile to help assist with payment for his injuries. He collected approximately $4,300 in donations.
After an extensive investigation, it was revealed that the juvenile was not assaulted as he had reported. On Wednesday in court, Judge William Tully adjudicated the delinquent on the charges of false reports to law enforcement and theft by deception. The juvenile did not contest the charges in court.
District Attorney Ed Marsico credited the police for their efforts in the investigation that helped reveal the truth.
“This was an incident that caused many people within the community to be fearful—a child standing alone at the bus stop and being randomly attacked. The randomness of this situation caused many people to contribute to a fund to help aid this child. In the end, the thorough investigation showed that in fact the whole story was made up.”
