YORK, Pa.-- A York man was forced to jump out of a window on Saturday night, after a fire broke out at his home.

Flames broke out at the home on the 200-block of Springdale Avenue in York around 6:30 p.m.

Crews battled the flames on the second and third floors of the home. As the fire spread, neighboring departments were called in to help.

"I am getting reports that there was an occupant on the second floor that had to jump out the window onto the first floor roof. It appears that he was sleeping, was made aware of the fire, the smoke was too much, and he wisely got out the window and made it to safety," Fire Chief David Michaels said.

At least six adults are now without a home. The American Red Cross will help them.  No injuries were reported.
