GORDONVILLE, Pa. - Seven members of Gordonville Fire and Ambulance just returned from a six day trip to Haiti where they were helping Hurricane Matthew victims.

"There are just multiple trees laying on houses. Houses with no roofs. Three to four walls standing for the house and so, my job was just to clear off all the trees from the houses and the roads," said David Weaver, medic.

The team worked out of a mobile clinic in the mountains. They were able to treat around 400 people.

"It was anything from trees falling and hitting people, from stepping on nails, from pieces of tin flying and hitting people in the leg, it was just unbelievable," said Leon Fisher, EMS Chief.

One patient, they say stuck with them, was a three-year-old boy that came in with his mother.

"We checked his temperature. It was really high. We couldn’t get any response out of him. He was completely unresponsive. Shallow breathing and stuff," said Joy Weiler, medic.

"He was unconscious when he got there from typhoid fever and his only hope was that someone was there to help," said Fisher.

They treated the boy for about an hour and he became responsive. They say he was even smiling when he left. The boy is expected to make a full recovery.

The crew was able to take all of the medical items that were donated to them and the items they did not use they were able to leave at the children's clinic.

"We can’t thank people enough. So many people are thanking us for going over and helping and we say no you guys are the ones that sent us and provided," said Fisher.

The Life Church organized the medics' trip. The church currently has a team in Haiti helping to rebuild. Donations to help are still being accepted.
