MECHANICSBURG, CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. -- Sunday marked the 45th year of the CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Program) Walk in Cumberland County.
Several churches in the area came together and joined forces to put an end to hunger, one step at a time, in our area and around the globe. All of the festivities kicked off at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg.
There was plenty of food and music for walkers to enjoy.
Organizers say the entire concept for the walk is original.
"The idea, the original idea of the walk was that a lot of people have to walk many many miles for their water and for their food, and so by walking we are not only raising money but we are showing solidarity," Kathy Wells, chair of the CROP Walk committee said.
There are more than 1,000 communities across the nation that host a CROP walk event. So far, the local hunger walk raised nearly $4,500.00 online.
