YORK, Pa. -- Democrat Carol hill Evans won the 95th legislative district seat against Republican Joel Sears for the Pennsylvania state House.

Hill-Evans, York City council president, took a nearly 20-point lead over Sears.

FOX 43 News spoke with both candidates about the race.

"I'm feeling elated. I'm feeling very grateful, very blessed, but very grateful to everybody who helped with my campaign, knocking on the doors, making contributions. I just really appreciate what everything that everyone did on my behalf. I appreciate the voters especially for having confidence in trusting me to make me now go to Harrisburg," Hill-Evans said.

There are a few key issues on the agenda for the newly-elected state representative to address in Harrisburg. "I plan to tackle education, equitable funding for education, creating jobs, sustainable jobs, economic development, and mental health issues," Hill-Evans said.

Opponent Joel Sears said "so let me just start by congratulating Carol for her victory. I wish her the very best in Harrisburg, she's going to be working with a great York County delegation, and let's just hope we keep the ball moving forward.and advance the cause of the people in the 95th, even though we're not represented here."

Hill-Evans will be the third democrat to hold the 95th district House seat in four years.

Democrat Eugene Depasquale vacated the seat after he was elected Pennsylvania Auditor General. Democrat Kevin Schreiber decided not to run for re-election after taking a job as CEO of the York County Economic Alliance.
