SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -A Maryland man and woman are behind bars in Cumberland County after failing to pay for a tax ride.

Police say Bobbie Jean Pratt, 29, and Robert Bryce III Featherstone, III, 25 both of Hagerstown, requested a ride from Chambersburg Hospital by Chambersburg Taxi Service to Shippensburg Borough.  The two were returning to Shippensburg after being admitted to Chambersburg Hospital for heroin overdose earlier that morning.

When the taxi got to the intersection of South Earl and Orange Street the two requested for the taxi operator to stop. The couple got out of  the taxi and started to walk away.  The taxi cab driver asked for payment of $37.00 for the fare for the both of them.  Pratt and Featherstone continued to walk away.

The taxi cab operator called 911 while following the couple.  The taxi cab operator followed them for several blocks until Shippensburg Police arrived.

When police them into custody the pair said they were walking to a friends house to get the money. When asked why they could not have the taxi take them to that location they did not have an answer.  During the search of Pratt’s belonging some marijuana was found.

Pratt was charged with Theft and Possession of Marijuana. Featherstone was charged with Theft.  Following arraignment they were taken to Cumberland County Prison where they are being held on $5,000 bail each.
