LOWER SWATARA TOWNSHIP, PA. --  Robots took over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday.

The South Central Pennsylvania Robotics Competition is part of the larger STEM initiative. It's open to all students throughout Central Pennsylvania.

The event is organized by HACC, Dauphin County Technical School, Cumberland-Perry Technical Schools and Penn State Harrisburg. It gives students a chance to apply what they learn in the classroom with real examples.

"This offers up a whole new advantage to students" said HACC instructor, Bill Forney.  "It brings out the best in the students because they see an applied science instead of sitting in a classroom and reading a text book. They're actually putting it to work right here."

The competition ended with several winners:

1st place: Alex Barreto, Opeyemi Folorunsho, Daegan Fuss from Dauphin County Technical School

2nd place: Daniel Evans, Edward Evans from the Harrisburg International Composite Squadron 306

3rd place: Anuj Ghimirey, Gunnar Leisey from Susquehanna Township High School

4th place: Andrew Ciardullo, Mark Peschel, Autumn Rauscher from Hershey High School
