EMIGSVILLE, PA. -- UPDATE:  The Pennsylvania State Police Troop H Harrisburg is investigating the attempted homicide of a Pennsylvania State Trooper on Interstate 83 Southbound in the area of Mile Marker 24.  During a traffic stop the violator fled and caused the trooper to be become stuck to the left side of the vehicle and dragged for approximately three tenths of a mile.  The actor attempted to drag the Troopers body into the cement center median, causing the high probability of Death to the Trooper.  The Trooper while in fear for his safety and the public at large fired his department-issued weapon (amount not released) striking and mortally wounding the violator/actor.

The Violator, an adult male, identity withheld per regulations, succumbed to his injuries on scene.  Immediate medical attention was rendered in attempt to save the life of the violator.

The Trooper, sustained injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

The traffic stop was initiated for a traffic violation, details not released at this time.

A police incident and crash has Southbound lanes of I-83 shut down between Exit 28: PA 295 - ZIONS VIEW/STRINESTOWN and Exit 24: PA 238 Emigsville.

There is one lane open Northbound. County control says there are reports of a shooting involving State Police. A coroner has been called to the scene.

A traffic stop reportedly preceded the incident.
