MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Plenty of people were stuck in traffic on I-83 from all parts of York County.

Kevin Rivers of York said he heard about the police-involved shooting on I-83 when Northeastern High School officials called him. They told him school buses were delayed because of the incident on the interstate.

"I was just concerned about getting to my daughter and making sure she was going to be able to get home on the school buses," Rivers said.

Then he heard what was causing that delay.

A traffic stop  gone wrong on I-83 near mile marker 24 in York County. A state trooper was dragged by a car down the highway as the driver was trying to flee. The trooper ended up shooting the driver and killing him.

"If it's what they say, I don't fault the officer. How can you fault the officer? You know because he could injure somebody else," Rivers said.

Others agree that the trooper was justified in shooting the driver.

Russell Baird from Red Lion, said, "He shouldn't have ran. He got what he deserves."

But people who live in the area think it's a tragedy no matter what.

Brandon Woodard of Hanover said, "It's awful that that happened. It's unfortunate that things happen like that. We shouldn't have to deal with that type of thing in this society."

Rivers said, "Everybody's getting off work, the school kids are coming home from school. Nobody needs to see that."

Some people said they hope the police conduct the investigation thoroughly to make sure the proper protocol was followed.
